Finding our way by getting directions from Christ

Finding my way means using Google Maps, GPS, or asking for directions. The world has gotten smaller. Driving routes have gotten more interesting. And, I have more cars driving down my country road than ever before.

In history, people navigated by the sun and stars. How simple that sounds, yet also so very complex. I can read a map. But, don’t ask me to find my way using the night sky.

When we first moved to our house 28 years ago, I used to give people directions using a landmark. “Take a left at the bull grazing in the field.”

Times have changed. The bull is gone and so is my landmark. I still live in the same place but, I now need to make my directions clearer.

Finding My Way With Clear Directions

How do we find God?

Jesus said, I am the way.

He said, you don’t know where I am going, but I am coming back to take you to be with me.

Simple. And complex. Because it is all about relationship.

From the beginning of time, God created us to be with Him. Eviction from the Garden may sound harsh, but truly it was an act of mercy, love, and grace.

Because if Adam and Eve ate from the Tree of Life after sin entered, they would have lived forever in their sin. Simply, there would be no redemption.

Adam and Eve had one simple direction in the Garden – Don’t eat from the tree of Good and Evil. Life became very complex because they questioned the ONE THING God asked.

Adam and Eve had one simple direction in the Garden. How we all long for simplicity now. For thousands of years we have been finding our way back to God. Navigating the many laws given to protect us. If we had just listened to the simple request. Don’t eat from that ONE TREE.

Simple and yet so very complex.

Simple because Jesus says, This is the way, walk in it.

Complex because our hearts are wayward and blinded by the enemy of our soul. He is going down and wants to take as many of us with him as he can, by duping us into believing his lies:

• You don’t need God.

• God is holding out on you.

• You can be like God.

Yet Jesus wants us to know the Truth.

How do we find our way to God?

So, in this crazy GPS world, finding our way can be as simple as following Jesus.

In what ways have directions become more complex for you – spiritually as well and physically. I would love to hear your thoughts.
