Don’t fear death...find eternal life with Jesus

It happened again last month. Another senseless act of evil took the innocent lives of 58 souls—death reared its ugly head, and we collectively hung our heads and wept.

It’s so much easier when death remains hidden in the shadows and is quiet. We can all continue on with our lives and not think of our own mortality. But, death is never quiet for long.

All of those people who died in Las Vegas met a tragic, unexpected death, but if death hadn’t met up with them that day, it would have eventually, as it will with all of us.

Death comes through sickness, natural disaster, an accident, old age, acts of violence, but the Bible identifies the ultimate cause of death, and that is sin (Romans 5:12). Death was the result of man’s turning away from God. However, God did not turn His back on His creation but sent His son, Jesus Christ, to suffer and die the death that was intended for us so that those who believe in Jesus will be able to enter into eternal life.

The day Jesus Christ died on that cross He defeated death—He cried out from the cross, “It is finished!” The chasm between us and God was closed. Death was defeated that day. Its grip on us removed by the blood of Jesus.

Someday it will be your turn to face death. If you haven’t, let your mind go there for a minute. Think about death for a minute. Are you ready? Do you know where you will go when you die?

A gospel tract from Living Water ministries provides a quick test to determine where you will spend eternity, where you will go when death comes calling. Here it is: Have you ever lied, stolen, lusted, or used God’s name in vain? If you have done these things, God sees you as a lying,

thieving, blasphemous, adulterer at heart, and the Bible warns that one day God will punish you in a terrible place called Hell. But God is not willing that any should perish. Sinners broke God’s Law and Jesus paid their fine. This means that God can legally dismiss their case.

John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” Then Jesus rose from the dead, defeating death.

Today, repent and trust Jesus, and God will give you eternal life as a free gift. Then read the Bible daily and obey it. God will never fail you.

Don’t be scared of death any longer. Give your life to Jesus today and rest in the comfort that everlasting life is waiting for you when death comes.
