Christian apologetics loses a mighty warrior with the death of Nabeel Qureshi

It was with great sadness on Sept. 16 when I read on social media of the death of Christian apologist Nabeel Qureshi. The New York best-selling author and speaker with Ravi Zacharias International Ministries, died after a year’s battle with stomach cancer. He was just 34 years old and leaves behind his wife Michelle and young daughter.

The first time I heard of Nabeel Qureshi was when I was searching for book to read.

The title of Nabeel’s book, “Seeking Allah, Finding Jesus,” caught my eye. I had just heard a speaker on Islam and was looking for more information and understanding about this religion that was sparking horrible violence across the world, especially against Christians. Nabeel’s book was invaluable in helping me to see the different facets of the Muslim faith, and helped me to realize that many Muslims are peaceful people, but some aren’t. Those who do embrace radical Islamic terrorism justify their violence by what they have been taught from the Koran, according to Nabeel.

In the book, “Seeking Allah, Finding Jesus,” Nabeel takes the reader step-by-step through his three-year journey in searching for the true God. He sets out, with much confidence, to prove to a college buddy that Allah is the true God and to disprove the God of Christianity and Jesus Christ. In the end, through much investigation, interventions from God, faithful witness from his friend, and much personal searching and inner and family turmoil, he comes to the realization that Christ is Lord, and he gives his life to Christ. Because of this, he was disowned by his family and shunned from his Muslim community. But he stated near the time of his death he does not regret any of this because of the work of Jesus Christ.

After converting to Christianity, Nabeel, although already a medical doctor, went on to pursue degrees in ministry, including an M.A. in Christian apologetics, an M.A. in religion, and an M.Phil. in Judaism and Christianity.(Qureshi was unable to finish his D.Phil. in New Testament studies due to his battle with stomach cancer.) He then went on to be an evangelist with the Ravi Zacharias International Ministries.

I highly recommend this book. It is an inspiring look into how Christ works in the life of a person who is actively searching for the truth.

Qureshi is also the author of two other books, “Answering Jihad: A Better Way Forward,” and “No God But One—Allah or Jesus.”
